When replying to comments, you might want to bring someone else into the conversation by tagging them. While this can be a useful way to engage others, there are a few rules to keep in mind before attempting to mention someone.
Who can be tagged
You can only tag people who are already participating in the same post.
If someone hasn’t left a comment under the post, you won’t be able to tag them in your response.
This rule also applies to business pages. They must have commented on the post first before you can mention them.
Privacy settings matter
Even if someone has commented on the post, they need to have tagging enabled in their privacy settings. If tagging isn’t allowed, the name will still appear in your response, but it will display only as plain text and won’t create a clickable link to their profile.
Business pages
Business pages follow the same rules as individual users:
They need to participate in the post thread by leaving a comment.
Tagging must be enabled in their page settings for the tag to work.
